The Details - My
Biggest Bass To Date! October 2003
I caught this beautiful fall
largemouth in 15 feet of water, using long casts beside a submerged
concrete wall. I would toss the bait about 40 yards, crank it
slowly down to depth, and let it rap against the concrete. She
bit on the second cast, I believe, and she fought so hard, I thought
that I had a big walleye or gar on the line. When she came up, I
saw that she had missed the bait with her mouth, and I had hooked her
just outside the gills near the top of her head. I gave her a
lot of drag - at one point, actually disengaging the reel and letting
her take a lot of line when she saw the boat. Eventually, I
tired her out, and lip-landed her safely. When I got her on
board, I realized how poorly hooked she really was...I measured and
weighed her, and then released the bass safely and unharmed.
